Swiss Pocket Watches by Revue Thommen

Swiss Watches: Revue Thommen.. RevueF

Founded originally in the 1850's the company became Revue Thommen in 1908 and were producing better than average quality watches sold in the UK under their Vertex brand, as Syren, Terminus and through distributers such a Limit. See also my blog post "The range of size 16 movements by Revue Thommen appears to be very large, but all is not quite as it seems". Those signed by J.W. Benson are shown on the J.W. Benson page.

Although they had always had some good premium makers the Swiss really came to the fore in watch making around the time of the Great War when they over took the then dominant American industry in both quality and price performance.

The Swiss made double backed, triple hinged, case has Swiss hallmarks for .800 silver and the German import mark - this does not necessarily mean that the watch ever went to Germany as Swiss watches often have the mark, probably "just in case". As is common with cases of this type the inner dust cover is base metal. The bezels front and back have been gilded and unusually the gilding is in very good condition. It has been ultrasonically cleaned and has a new mineral glass crystal from old stock.
